Principal's Message

By Mr. Frank Kuzniewski, John Mills Elementary School Principal

On behalf of the entire faculty and staff, I want to welcome you to another school year at John Mills School! We have an amazing community of learners from PK through 5th grade.  John Mills School is a special place where students are engaged with a rigorous curriculum and encouraged to grow as learners and as individuals.  Our dedicated team of professionals is committed to working with families to support the social, emotional, physical, and academic growth of students.  We encourage our students to challenge themselves to reach their full potential while developing a love of learning.

As we open our doors, we are eager to rally behind our theme: Do Better, Be Better, Aim Higher.

The John Mills School community can bring this theme to life in impactful ways. Students can demonstrate this mission by actively challenging themselves academically and supporting their peers every day. Our remarkable teachers will live the theme by designing innovative, high-quality lessons that meet the needs of every individual learner. Meanwhile, parents can embody this spirit by maintaining strong communication with the school and encouraging positive study habits at home. This consistent and collaborative spirit are reasons why John Mills School has been nominated for the prestigious Illinois Governor's Blue Ribbon Award! We are incredibly proud of this nomination.

To reach our highest potential, consistent daily attendance is vital for every single student, so please help us make every day count. Please keep in mind that Mondays are early release days across the school district to allow for important collaboration and planning. For grades K-5, dismissal on Mondays will be at 2:00. The PK morning session will release at 10:25, and the afternoon session will release at 1:45.

Parents will receive all important school updates through the ParentSquare platform this year as transition from Remind and SchoolMessenger. We also ask you to look out for our school newsletter, Mills Moments, sent via text and email every other Friday at approximately 3:30. Parents should be mindful of this schedule because the newsletter includes critical updates and community reminders.

John Mills School is a great place! I look forward to meeting new and returning families while providing a great experience for your students. Feel free to contact your student’s teacher(s) or myself should you ever have questions.

With Trojan Pride,

Mr. Frank Kuzniewski
