Meet Megan VerVynck, New EPHS Principal!
Krista Kerber

The 2026-27 school year welcomes a new principal at Elmwood Park High School! Megan VerVynck, a 19-year education veteran, will bring her expertise to District 401 for her fifth year as a building principal. Coming from LaGrange Highlands Middle School District 106 and prior to that Westmont CUSD 201 as a High School Assistant Principal of Teaching and Learning, Megan brings a comprehensive understanding of suburban Chicago school districts.

During her time at Westmont High School, she found a strong connection between the classroom and administration while continuing to grow her leadership experience. Prior to that, she served in Oak Park District 97 as both a teacher and teacher leader, where she led summer programming to support students, took on both district and building leadership roles, and served as the district’s English Language Arts Department Chair. Spending nearly ten years in Oak Park gave her the opportunity to work closely with students and families as they grew into successful young adults. Megan began her teaching career at St. Laurence High School in Burbank, IL, where she taught high school English and discovered her love for working in education.

Coming from a family of educators, Megan’s mother was a preschool teacher, her aunt was a primary school teacher, and her sister is a math interventionist. While teaching runs in her family, Megan found her passion and personal connection to education a little further down the road. “I did not know right away that teaching was my calling, but I did know that I loved to learn and was passionate about helping others find what they loved in life,” she said. She expresses that her favorite part of the job is that no two days are ever the same. “Every day is an adventure—so pack light, but be ready for anything!”

Drawn to Elmwood Park by its sense of community, Megan is excited to be working back in a unit school district, stating the power behind watching kids grow from kindergarten to 12th grade. She hopes to bring her extensive experience working with similar systems to her role here. She prides herself on strong communication and vertical articulation skills, and is excited to build on the already amazing work happening at District 401.

Some things Megan enjoys outside of work include sports and extracurriculars, staying active at the gym, and trying out new food dishes!

Fun fact: In college, Megan spent a few years competitively boxing! Although it’s been awhile since she’s last competed, she still attends lessons from time to time, and keeps up her sparring skills with a heavy bag at home!

Elmwood Park High School is so grateful to have Megan join the administrative team. We look forward to her leadership ahead.

The Elmwood Park community is invited to attend a meet and greet with Megan on Tuesday, May 12 from 5:30–6:30 p.m., held near the EPHS softball and baseball fields during that evening’s games. All are welcome to stop by and give her a warm welcome to Elmwood Park!
